Halo Infinite Won’t Launch and is Crashing for some PC users – How to fix
Halo Infinite won’t launch and crash. This guide will help you fix these issues.
Many PC users experience crashes when trying to launch Halo Infinite.
Halo Infinite’s final release is now available. The Multiplayer has been released in beta and the campaign is now available. The game is doing really well so far. At the moment, there are approximately 100,000 Steam reviews for the game. Most of the reviews are positive.
Although there are no issues with Halo Infinite’s gameplay, there are technical issues that need to be resolved. This is about launch and crashing issues.
Many PC users experience frequent crashes when the game is being launched. This is understandable for those who try to launch the game from a computer that does not meet the minimum requirements. This is not the case. This is something I’m seeing Ryzen 7 5800xs users and RTX 3280s users complain about.
This is why I have decided to list all fixes that have been confirmed by Halo Community to be working in this article.
How do you fix it?
These are some suggestions to increase stability. They may or might not work.
1. Use the recommended GPU drivers
343 already recommends the Nvidia/AMD drivers that are best suited to Halo Infinite. Here’s what they had to say:
Halo Infinite must be played using the most recent PC graphics drivers. Visit the manufacturer’s support website to download the latest drivers.
- Recommended driver: Halo Ready Beta Driver
- Performance is significantly improved by the AMD Halo Game Ready Beta Driver. For the best user experience, please update to this driver.
- Recommended driver: 496.49
- All Intel graphics drivers
- At this moment, Intel graphics hardware cannot be supported.
This will also fix DirectX and Direct3D errors in Halo Infinite.
#2: Set full screen effects to 0
Many users began reporting that Halo Infinite crashed frequently when they were respawning or when the shield broke. This is when the fix was discovered. Some users concluded that the “Full Screen Effects” are responsible for the crashes. It is possible to get rid of crashes by setting the value to 0
You can do this by going to your Video Settings and setting Full Screen Effects at 0. While you’re at it:
- Low Effect Quality
- Disable Speed Lines
- Click on the UI tab to disable Chromatic Aberration and Bloom.
Fix #3 – Disable high-resolution textures
You will receive a Multiplayer High Resolution Textures pack when you install Halo. It is approximately 7.7 GB in size and affects the visuals on maps in multiplayer mode. It is likely that you have it installed right now, even though you don’t know. Here’s how to remove it.
- Steam users can go to their Library
- Right-click Halo Infinite
- Select Properties
- Click on “DLC”
- Un-tick this box next to ‘Multiplayer High Resolution Textures’
You can use Halo Infinite with the Xbox app
- Visit the Halo Infinite Store page on your Xbox App
- Click these “three dots” to select Manage Game
- Just un-tick that box next to High-res Textures
- Apple Changes
- Restart the app
Fix #4 – Reduce reflections quality to low in-game
Many crashes appear to be happening on Streets map, which is specifically designed for certain users. There are also reflections that can cause serious problems.
Some users report that crashes and instability can be caused by reflection settings, even when the GPUs are very powerful.
Fix #5 – Disable Async Compute
Async Compute should be disabled if you have an Nvidia GPU. This setting is a ‘hit or miss’ option for Nvidia GPU users. This setting can cause crashes in some cases, but it is able to eliminate the problem for others. This problem is less common in AMD users.
Go to Settings > Video and disable Async Compute. After that, restart the game.
Fix #6: Use the Minimum Frame Rate or Maximum Frame Rate setting
Your in-game maximum frame rate should match your monitor’s default refresh rate. If your monitor is 144Hz, you can set maximum fps at 144. Set your minimum frame rate so that it is still playable.
Dynamic resolution scaling is used by the game. It adjusts its minimum frame rate to ensure that it maintains this minimum. This will reduce CPU and GPU overuse and may fix the crashing issue.
For Steam users, fix #7 – Verify Halo Infinite’s game files on Steam
If Halo Infinite is on Steam and you are unable to launch the game, You should verify that Halo Infinite’s game files are uploaded via Steam.
- Start Steam by restarting your computer
- Next, right-click Halo Infinite from your Library
- Select Properties from the drop-down menu
- Click the Verify integrity game files… button by selecting the Local Files tab
- Steam will verify your game’s files. This process can take several minutes.
Fix #8 – Repairing Halo Infinite could fix launch issues (For Xbox App users)
You can repair Halo Infinite if you’re playing it on your Windows 10 computer. If there are missing or damaged files, this will repair the game. Here’s how it works:
- Go to Windows Settings
- Choose Apps and Features
- From the app list, look for Halo Infinite
- Once you locate it, click on Halo Infinite (just use sort by: size).
- Choose Advanced options
- Click on Repair
- Do not wait until the process is complete
- Restart the Xbox App
Fix #9: Manually update Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, then restart your computer
It is a good idea to update your visual C++ redistributable as it may not have been installed correctly. This will resolve errors such as “vcruntime140_1.dll is missing” or “MSVCP140.dll wasn’t found”.
Fix #10 – Check for any updates to Microsoft Gaming Services
This is the main reason why games crash when they are running on the Xbox App for PC. This issue also affected Forza Horizon 5 players. You can find updates to Microsoft Gaming Services in Microsoft Store’s Downloads section.
Update – 12/09/2021
After clicking the Play button in the Xbox App, Halo Infinite will redirect you to the Microsoft Store’s “Gaming Services” page. Here’s what you should do.
Select manage installation by clicking on the three dots beside the game. Next, untick/tick the high texture pack and choose ‘chose which I want to install’. Next, choose the modules that you wish to install. (You can decide whether to keep HD textures. That should do the job. This basically verifies that the installation is done correctly.
Fix #11: Halo Infinite isn’t compatible with certain Overlays
Disable Steam Overlay and all other unnecessary overlays or apps (Afterburner etc.).
Fix #12: Check your antivirus settings
Your antivirus might not allow Halo Infinite to launch on your computer. You might get a false-positive. Check your antivirus settings to ensure that the game isn’t being blocked. You can add Halo Infinite as a whitelist option to your antivirus program.
Fix #13: Using the Windows 10 System file checker
Windows has a system file checker. Here’s how it works:
- Type “cmd” in quotes and press the Windows key. Right-click the prompt to select “Run As Administrator”
- Enter “sfc/scannow” in the prompt without spaces and hit enter
- Do not wait until the process is completed
- If you find errors, repeat the process until there are no more errors
- Next, in the same command prompt type “DISM/Online /Cleanup–Image /CheckHealth” sans quotes and hit enter
- Do not wait until the process is completed
- This will protect your files in case corrupt or missing dlls cause system instability.
If none of the fixes given above end up working for you. You can check your Event Viewer for error or crash reports. There will always be one, even if no error is displayed on screen. It will be in Custom Views > Administrative Events and/or Windows Logs > Application. If the error involves kernelbase.dll, type “regsvr32 KERNELBASE.dll” without quotes, in the command prompt, and hit enter. Then restart your PC.
That is going to be all for the topic of fixing Launch and Crashing issues in Halo Infinite. Nothing mentioned is this article is a guaranteed fix, as it is impossible to find one that fixes the issues for every single Halo Infinite player in the world. If none of the methods mentioned work for you, then you can directly send a ticket to Halo Support by following the steps mentioned here .
